Russell Cave National Monument Hiking Trails

Intro:

The Russell Cave National Monument is located in the Northeast Alabama city of Bridgeport. It is host to two miles of hiking/nature trails. The hiking and nature trails are educational. There are several markers along the trails with information about the wildlife, trees, and plants that inhabit the area. The walk to the cave is via a boardwalk and it's very easy. NOTE: The hiking trails close at 3:30pm CST. The boardwalk to the cave is open until 4:30pm.

Trail Head:

The trail head is just behind the visitors center.

To access the trail head: Before hitting up the trails you can go inside the visitors center and they will give you a map and brochures. You really don't need a trail map, but they will give you one at the visitors center for free.

Difficulty:

The hiking trails are a bit steep, but they are paved which makes them safe. You will get a bit winded on the trails. The walk to the cave is really easy.

Hiking the Trail:

It's pretty simple for this one. Just start the loop. You will loop back to the same point. Just keep in mind it's a bit steep and can get a little strenuous. Along your hike you will see markers with educational information on them about the plants, trees, and wildlife located in the north east corner of the state.

Scenery:

You will get great views of the cave. On the hiking trails you will get great views of Alabama woodland, rock formations, and more.

Trail Maintenance:

The trails are paved and well maintained.

Facilities:

The visitors center contains artifacts gathered from the cave. It's very educational. There are restrooms located in the visitors center. They also have camping facilities.
